The challenge
Cairns Airport had a Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) in place and wanted to build the framework, processes and capability behind it, moving from reactive to proactive, strategic asset management.
What was delivered
- Refreshed the asset management strategy, with six objectives and KPIs linked to the corporate strategy
- Built an ISO 55001-aligned framework linking corporate strategy to the SAMP, AMPs and day-to-day work
- Set up governance: roles, decision-making and a review cycle through to annual maturity assessments
- Developed criticality, risk, condition and service level ratings, so assets are rated consistently
- Created processes and templates across the lifecycle, from capital planning to asset registration and handover
- Linked the framework with project management, finance, procurement and ICT
- Mapped a staged roadmap from reactive to strategic asset management
ISO 55001aligned framework, built to sit behind the existing SAMP and lift maturity across the business.
The outcome
A clear, ISO 55001-aligned framework and a practical roadmap to strategic asset management, with asset management recognised as a business-wide process, not just an infrastructure one. Asset management maturity moved from Aware to Developing on the IAM scale.
